Blow Fly (Calliphoridae), Both a pollinator and scavenger they are both helpful and ecologically problematic carrying various diseases. They are often used as forensic tools to detect dead tissue.
This image is a deep focus stack of 14 slices taken hand held at f/6.3 with a magnification of 5x alive in the field. The final composition is the result of some experimentation using about 4 stacks of the same slices. I used 3 different algorithms and composited them together to avoid contrast halos, contrast changes, color changes, and keep hair alignment.
Keeping the aperture wider held back some of the extreme detail loss generally caused by diffraction at high magnifications. So looking at the high res version in this case is worth it.
